Since 1969, the Native Students Union has been supporting Indigenous students at UVic.
As more Indigenous students are studying at UVic, the community the NSU fosters is more important than ever, because it makes Indigenous students feel cared for and connected to their peers.
The NSU volunteer council advocates on behalf of our community; supporting Indigenous students by hosting events like monthly cooks, self-defence classes, and collaborations with other advocacy groups on campus.
Despite the importance of our work, the NSU receives one of the smallest amounts of funding per student out of the 6 advocacy groups of the UVSS, and we have not had a funding increase since 2002.
This year we are holding a referendum asking for a dollar-fifty increase per full-time student.
This increase in funding will benefit all Indigenous students who interact with the NSU! It will allow us to continue caring for the Indigenous students at UVic by hosting more cultural events and programs to give back to our community.
This increase would also mean that we can improve training for volunteer councillors as they step into their roles as student advocates.
Voting will be open from March 17th to March 19th, 2025! You’ll receive a link to vote from UVic in your email.
Please help support Indigenous students by voting yes to the NSU’s referendum asking for a dollar-fifty funding increase! Your vote is sincerely appreciated.
Thank you for your time!
